It depicts a World War I scene featuring Scotsmen soldiers stationed in a trench, observing enemy movements safely through a mirror periscope. The image shows the soldiers equipped with rifles and bayonets, standing near a bomb-proof shelter reinforced with sandbags and a blanket meant for gas attack protection. The card is mounted on gray cardboard with the Keystone View Company branding on the left edge and publication cities listed on the right: Meadville, PA; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; London, England. The verso includes a detailed description of the scene, explaining the use of the improvised mirror periscope and gas attack safety measures.
