CELES + EVELYN AGUILAR SANTA CLARA AVANYU TALL BLK/BLK WEDDING VASE POT POTTERY

Celes Tafoya (born in 1932) and Evelyn Aguilar are a mother-and-daughter team of potters from Santa Clara Pueblo. Celes Tafoya was the daughter of Legoria Velarde and Pasqual Tafoya. Pablita Velarde and Jane Baca were among her aunts. Evelyn Aguilar was her daughte. Celes learned the ancient art from her mother and passed it on to her daughter. Celes worked with her mother for many years. They signed their works "Legoria + Celes". After Legoria died, she collaborated with her daughter for many more years. They signed their works "Celes/Evelyn". Over a long career, Celes, working with either mother or daughter, earned many ribbons at the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and at Santa Fe Indian Market.
